If you've recently purchased an XS1 and would like a crash course to quickly familiarize yourself with an overview of the device, this article is for you! We're excited to be a part of your fitness journey. Provided here is some quick-access info to help you learn more about your new device:
CONNECTION POINTS
The XS1 has four cable connection points where you can connect your accessories to perform the exercises. The first two are slide connections located on the vertical positioners, each supporting 70 pounds of digital tension for a combined weight of 140 pounds. Never adjust the slide positions while the system is loaded. The other two connection points are located in the deck and support 250 pounds of digital tension combined. The deck connections can be found by sliding open the shackle covers on either side of the force plate.
ACCESSORIES
Barbell: The 14-pound barbell is designed to attach to both deck connections for exercises such as bench press, squat, deadlift, curls, and standing row.
Multifunction Bar: The 3-pound multifunction bar is designed to attach to both rack slides for exercises such as lat pulldowns and seated rowing.
Handles: Each hand grip can be individually attached to any connection point and can be used to perform single arm exercises or combined with another hand grip to work both arms simultaneously or in an alternating fashion.
Rope: The rope can be connected to either slide connections and used for chops, tricep extension, and certain row exercises.
Ankle Straps: The ankle straps attach to the slide connections and are used for leg workouts, including abduction and adduction movements.
Waist Harness: The waist harness has two connection rings that can be attached to the deck or slide connections. The harness is great for exercises such as squats or weighted jumps.
SkiHandles: The SkiHandles connect to both slide connections for SkiCross.
HYDROFIT ACCESSORIES
Row Bar: The row bar has a central connection point and attaches to both slide connections.
Adjustable Paddle: When extended, the adjustable paddle is used for paddleboard exercises or can be shortened for canoeing.
Multifunction Bar: The multifunction bar attaches to both slide connections for kayaking workouts.
SurfSwim Paddles: Each SurfSwim paddle attaches to a slide connection. Place your middle finger in the rubber loop of each paddle, and you are ready to dive in!
THE OXEDOT
The OxeDot is a wireless control device that can load and unload the digital tension on the XS1. Instead of pressing the “Load” button to start an exercise, use the OxeDot when the system is ready to start. Attach the OxeDot to any accessory and position it where you can easily press it throughout your exercise. A long press of the OxeDot will load tension. A quick press will unload.
MULTIFUNCTION BENCH
The Flow and Peak accessory packages include a multifunction bench, which is approximately 53" long x 16" wide x 15" tall. The longer portion of the multifunction bench is the strength pad and can be used for strength-building exercises, like the bench press.
Removing the strength pad allows the smaller, remaining seat portion to be used for rowing. Swing the footplate up and lock it into place by rotating the large knob until tight. The footplate also has two open brackets to hold the row bar. To unlock and ready the rowing seat, simply lift and rotate the knob 90º in either direction to lock it in an upright position. Position the bench so that it is aligned with the two deck markers. Lock the bench in place by screwing the two center knobs located in between the top and bottom portions of the bench into the two holes that are near the deck markers. Finally, deploy the rear kickstand by pressing either the left or right foot pedal out and away from the bench.
To move the multifunction bench off the deck, lift the handle on one end until the wheels engage, then roll off.
THE FORCE PLATE
The force plate is the rectangular inset at the front of the deck. When conducting lifts, such as squats or deadlifts, stand on the force plate with both feet centered and equally spaced. When the balance meter is turned on, you will see real-time feedback of your center of balance to correct your form.
VERTICAL STORAGE
If you choose to store the deck in an upright position, prepare the XS1 by disconnecting all accessories. Raise both slides to their highest position. Close both deck connection covers. After ensuring that no one else is near the device, especially small children and pets, grab the end of the deck and lift until it is fully vertical.
THE USER INTERFACE
There are 5 main areas of the user interface.
➩ First is the HOME section, where you will find featured training content like new releases and special collections. OxeFit trainer profiles are also available here for you to browse and learn more about their classes.
➩ Second is the GET STARTED section, where you will find a series of 5-minute video tutorials about using the device. This guidance is for new users and is intended to help fast track the learning curve so you begin enjoying the XS1 fitness experience right away.
➩ Third is OXEPLAY, where you can access the fitness gaming experience on the XS1.
➩ Fourth section is QUICK START, where you can access an OxeFit library of fitness content, including Exercises, Workouts, Classes, and Programs. Here you will also find Freestyle Mode, which allows you to bypass all the pre-configurations and manually set up the XS1 by selecting the connection point, accessory, advanced settings, and amount of digital cable resistance weight.
➩ Fifth is your PROFILE, where you can find all of your tracked activity, fitness progress, workout metrics, and more. Profile is accessed by taping your user icon.
POWERING DOWN & SLEEP MODE
The ON/OFF button is located at the base of the kiosk. After your workout, there is no need to power down your device because the XS1 is designed to go into Sleep Mode to protect the screen while remaining available for software upgrades. To start your next workout, simply touch the screen to activate it.
BEST PRACTICES
01) The XS1 is designed for use by only one person at a time. Keep others, especially small children and pets, away from the device.
02) Digital weight will often feel heavier than free weight, so the best practice is to start lighter than your expected strength and do several reps to get a better feel for digital tension.
03) Ensure that your deck lifting movement is straight up and down. For optimum position, ensure proper foot placement on the force plate to create a purely vertical cable path.
ADVANCED SETTINGS
There are many Advanced Settings you may choose from to maximize your training. These settings are primarily designed to help you target your workout routines even more, depending on your goals.
For pre-configured exercises, access the training modes by selecting Advanced Settings in your workout, located near the lower right side of the active workout screen. For freestyle exercises, access the training modes when you set up your movement.
You can change the training mode within an exercise by unloading the weight and selecting Advanced Settings, located near the lower right side of the active workout screen.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
The XS1 has great monitoring features to detect unsafe barbell movements. If you rapidly tilt the barbell while lifting, the XS1 will unload the tension immediately. Another monitoring feature is called Stall Detection. If you stop for more than five seconds at the bottom of your range of motion or stop for 15 seconds at any portion of the lift, the system will unload and end the set immediately.
